We’ve been living in LA for a little over a year now and everybody – seriously Everybody talks about Juice. So we decided to make our own for the first time last night and it didn’t go as well as we planned! It’s not as easy as those instagram and facebook posts make it seem…at least that’s what we experienced.
We always eat healthy with some treats here and there of course, but recently we feel like we’ve hit a plateau with our weight, which is so annoying. We decided we wanted to change things up and try juicing. SIDE NOTE – we don’t really cook…unless you consider oatmeal, protein shakes and making frozen veggies cooking lol There are so many places that just sell juice and shakes in LA, it’s almost overwhelming. We’ve been to most of them and they’re all really good, but super expensive – like $8-$20 dollars for a drink! Yeah we Know – crazy right?! So we did some research – and by research we mean searching hashtags of recipes on Instagram and taking pictures of them 🙂
We went to Ralphs down the block and bought a lot veggies – Kale, Spinach, Carrots, Celery, Ginger, lemons, limes etc.
All that healthy fresh food sat in our refrigerator for 3 days – no bueno. So today, we went to Ralphs again to get a couple of more ingredients and we saw a pre-mix of veggies/fruit Ready to Juice………OMG Jack Pot right?! We got home, put the pre-mix of (beets, carrots, apples, cucumber and kale) into the blender with some water then drank it….Ewwwwwwwww. Not good at all! We immediately poured it down the drain without thinking twice!
Then we decided to make a salad, since we had all the ingredients for it. We used baby spring lettuce mix, carrots (we borrowed a peeler from our neighbor – yeah need to buy one) cucumbers, tomatoes and strawberries. We were going to cut everything on a plate, but then we found a cutting board in the cabinet – can’t even tell you when we bought that 🙂 We also wanted to use avocado, but we’re not sure how to cut it the right way – Yeahhhhhhh, gotta google that one! We topped off our salad with pepper/lemon juice and it was actually really really good! YAY!!!
So now we can make a salad – Score!!
As for the juicing – we’ll make another attempt tonight after Dance class and definitely let you know how it goes. Until then – if you have any recipes, suggestions, advice, tips etc. — Please comment below and let us know 🙂
